Position Overview: Lead Geological Engineer
As a key member of our team at Vets Hired, the Lead Geological Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and sustainability of our engineering projects. This position involves a variety of responsibilities that require both technical expertise and strategic oversight.
Key Responsibilities:
- Revise and enhance seismic safety protocols and safety elements in collaboration with various departments.
- Manage the processing of surface mining permits and reclamation strategies.
- Conduct comprehensive earth resource assessments for planning initiatives, focusing on seismic safety, conservation, slope stability, and open space considerations.
- Provide expert guidance to planners and field investigators, reviewing seismic and geological hazard reports, and assessing soil conditions relevant to private sewage systems.
- Evaluate and verify grading and building plans for proposed developments, ensuring alignment with geological studies to identify potential hazards.
- Implement necessary measures to mitigate risks associated with geological hazards, determining the need for exploratory techniques to assess geological conditions and recommending corrective actions.
- Offer legal support and act as a geological consultant to various departments as required.
Qualifications:
Education: A Bachelor's degree in geology or engineering geology from an accredited institution is required. Proof of degree completion is mandatory for consideration.
Experience: A minimum of two years of professional experience in engineering geology, specifically in analyzing and resolving geological challenges in the planning, design, and construction of engineered structures.
Licenses: A valid California Driver's License is essential. Candidates must also possess a valid Professional Geologist license issued by the California State Board for Geologists and Geophysicists, along with a Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG) certification.
Knowledge and Skills:
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of:
- The principles and practices of both physical and historical geology.
- Engineering geology and its applications to civil engineering.
- Geological formations related to seismic hazards.
- Techniques for surveying, mapping, drafting, and photography in engineering geology.
Abilities: The candidate must be adept at collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data related to earth resources, as well as evaluating local geological conditions concerning their seismic and environmental implications.
Physical Requirements: This role involves site visits that necessitate extensive walking over uneven terrain and exposure to varying weather conditions.
