Pharmacy Operations Manager

The Pharmacy Manager, Oncology Pharmacy Operations, is responsible for planning, monitoring, and directly supervising pharmacy personnel in the safe, effective, and cost-effective acquisition and use of medications. This role requires a strong leader who can direct pharmacy operations, strategies, policies, and procedures, as well as manage the budget process, project planning, and implementation, human resource management, and committee representation.
Key Responsibilities
- Directing pharmacy operations, strategies, policies, and procedures, the budget process, project planning, and implementation, human resource management, and committee representation.
- Ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards, implementing and monitoring financial controls to ensure effective utilization of resources through budgeting and analysis of management reports, development of staff and services, as well as organizational performance improvement, quality management, evidence-based outcomes, and setting the communication tone, values, and culture of the health system.
- Collaborating with clinical leadership to develop drug use initiatives and assure appropriate use of medications.
- Executing and consistently implementing drug use initiatives and pharmacy care management initiatives.
- Collaborating with system stakeholders to develop quality initiatives, processes, and tools.
- Executing and consistently implementing quality initiatives across all pharmacy practice settings, ensuring enforcement of all applicable policies, standards, and regulations related to Medication Safety, Medication Management, and AR&L (Accreditation, Regulatory, and Licensing).
- Collaborating with Pharmacy Informatics personnel to ensure successful implementation and maintenance of technology systems and contributing to the development of technology innovation.

- Oversight of policy and procedure pertaining to hiring, evaluation, discipline, and termination of employees, assurance that all objectives and assignments given to department managers are completed on time and conform to applicable standards, rules, and regulations.
- Achievement of pharmacy productivity targets (Inpatient, Outpatient, and other functional areas), goals, and performance metrics at the Medical Center.
- Collaborating with the Institution's Compliance Officer to ensure adherence with the Pharmacy Compliance Plan and ensuring Corrective Action Plans are developed and completed in response to Compliance issues, responsibility for executive leadership over compliance related to Pharmacy Operations.
- Involvement in the training of pharmacy students and residents.
- Collaborating with designated Service Line Leaders to develop policies, procedures, systems, tools, and communication strategies to ensure compliance with Pharmacy Laws and regulations in all regional Pharmacy Operations and Services.
- Initiating and managing the change process, taking steps to remove barriers or accelerate its pace, communicating a compelling vision and need for change that generates excitement, enthusiasm, and commitment to the process, clearly communicating the direction, required performance, and challenges of change to all involved parties, identifying and enlisting the support of key individuals and groups to move the change forward, obtaining and providing resources to implement change initiatives, serving as a role model by demonstrating commitment to innovation and continuous improvement in organizational performance.
- Providing executive leadership to seek out, promote, and facilitate the rapid adoption and assimilation of best practices and innovations in service, work methods, technology, and operational systems that improve pharmacy service, quality, and productivity in the region.
- Providing leadership to assure Workforce Planning and Leadership/Management Development programs are in place and to ensure an effective team necessary for the long-term success of Pharmacy Services.
- Providing leadership and direction to assure compliance with Ohio law and regulations, pharmacy business practices, internal and external accrediting bodies, and other institutional policies.
- Developing and implementing appropriate productivity management programs for each area of pharmacy practice.
- Being responsible for adherence with inventory management, drug procurement, and drug distribution requirements, standards, and regulations.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
- Complying with all policies and standards.

- Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct, and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy (Required) and
- Master's Degree (Preferred)
- Prior supervisor experience (Preferred) and
- 5+ years of experience in the practice area with a minimum of 3 years leadership experience (Required) and
- Experience working with health-system pharmacy leadership in a progressive and complex healthcare system (Required)

- Able to work collaboratively with healthcare executives, providers, and administrators (Required proficiency).
- Knowledgeable and experienced in various areas of pharmacy, including but not limited to: operations, systems, technology, and personnel management (Required proficiency).
- Demonstrates an ability to apply and utilize knowledge of quality management process, regulatory compliance, accreditation, healthcare laws, integrated care delivery system related to pharmacy, medicine, and nursing (Required proficiency).
- Proficient with using computers, monitoring, and reporting financial and operational performance (Required proficiency).
- Completion of an ASHP accredited Hospital Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL) residency (Preferred proficiency)
- Registered Pharmacist (R.Ph) in the State of Ohio (Required)
