Exciting Opportunity for a Photonics Engineer Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Photonics Engineer to join our team at SAIC. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing photonics-based devices and systems for various applications.

This role is dependent on a contract award in the near future.

Consideration for relocation support will be provided as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and simulate photonics devices and systems utilizing software tools like MATLAB, Lumerical, or COMSOL.
  • Create optical components and subsystems, such as lasers, modulators, detectors, and optical amplifiers.
  • Conduct characterization and testing of optical devices and systems in lab settings.
  • Collaborate with diverse teams to integrate photonics solutions into larger systems or products.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in photonics technology.
  • Contribute to innovative research and development initiatives pushing the boundaries of optical technology.

Qualifications

  • Seven (7) years of experience & Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, or related field
    • Or PhD in the mentioned disciplines and four (4) years of relevant experience
  • Strong expertise in optics, lasers, and photonics.
  • Proficiency in optical design tools like Zemax, OpticStudio, or equivalent.
  • Hands-on involvement in optical modeling, simulation, and characterization.
  • Familiarity with optical test and measurement equipment.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor device physics and fabrication methods is advantageous.
  • Outstanding problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills are essential.

  • Applicants must be US Citizens and willing to acquire a Secret security clearance.
