Job Description

IKO North America is a leading manufacturer of roofing and building materials, with a strong commitment to quality, integrity, and trustworthiness. We are seeking a highly skilled HSE Specialist to join our team.

About the Role

  • As a HSE Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective execution of safety strategies to meet business goals.
  • You will actively coach staff and supervisors in leadership behaviors to improve communication, safety behaviors, and activities on the shop floor.
  • You will anticipate, identify, and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices, and apply the hierarchy of controls to eliminate hazards and reduce risks.
  • You will implement, administer, and advise others on hazard control programs for their respective plants.
  • You will be the plant lead for the proactive application of internal and external standards in support of hazard reduction and compliance.
  • You will monitor legislative changes and make recommendations based on their potential impact to the business.
  • You will perform safety evaluations, site-level self-audits, run site safety committees, and ergonomics programs.
  • You will perform instructor-led training for EHS courses as required.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a BA/BS degree in occupational safety, science, engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Three to five years of prior experience in a manufacturing setting working in a Health & Safety role.
  • Professional EHS certification is desired.
  • Proven leadership skills in a manufacturing environment.
  • A team player who can lead by example and influence.
  • Sound, comprehensive knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Detailed understanding of general industry standards and knowledge of basic health and safety concepts such as hazard and risk assessment, behavior-based safety, machine/equipment safety, etc.
  • The ability to chair management/employee meetings and presentations.
  • Above-average communication skills to enable the transfer of clear and concise information at all levels of the organization.
  • The ability to facilitate the process of learning amongst supervisors and the shop floor.
