About the Role

The Janitorial Specialist position at ABM is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of assigned areas. This role requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cleaning and Maintenance: Cleans and maintains buildings and facilities, including floors, walls, windows, and other surfaces. Performs heavy cleaning duties, such as shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish.
  • Reporting and Communication: Notifies managers concerning the need for minor or major repairs or additions to building operating systems. Establishes and maintains effective communication and working relationships with clients, co-workers, shift coordinators, supervisors, and managers.
  • Compliance and Safety: Complies with all safety, security, compliance, and quality standards and procedures established by the Company, Clients, and regulatory authorities.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Must be flexible and willing to complete all tasks assigned, including occasional use of ladders and other equipment.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Cleaning and Polishing: Cleans building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them. Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Dusting and Cleaning: Dusts and washes furniture, walls, machines, and equipment; cleans ceilings and dusts and polishes light fixtures. Washes and replaces blinds.
  • Moving and Storage: Moves cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates, and equipment to clean areas, either manually or by using hand trucks.
  • Stain Removal and Seasonal Tasks: Removes stains from surfaces such as rugs, drapes, walls, and floors using chemicals and cleaning solutions. May also sweep walks, rake leaves, cut grass, remove snow, or perform other incidental seasonal tasks.
  • Cleaning Solutions and Equipment: Mixes water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions according to specifications.
  • Floor Care: Strips, seals, finishes, and polishes floors.
  • Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning: Cleans and vacuums carpeted areas, including application of spot cleaning treatment.
  • Trash and Recycling: Gathers and empties trash.
  • Food Service Cleaning: Wipes and cleans tabletops, chairs, and equipment in food areas.
  • Furniture and Fixture Cleaning: Cleans and polishes furniture and fixtures.
  • Restroom Services: Services, cleans, and supplies restrooms.
  • Overhead Ventilation and Blinds: Periodically cleans overhead vents, dusts blinds, and polishes wood furniture.
  • Glass and Mirror Cleaning: Cleans interior partition glass, windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
  • Pest Control: Sprays insecticides and fumigants to prevent insect and rodent infestation.
  • Event Setup and Tear Down: Sets up, arranges, and removes decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events such as banquets and meetings.
  • Supply Requisition and Equipment Maintenance: Requisitions supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties. Maintains equipment in good working order.
  • Building Security and Safety: Monitors building security and safety by performing tasks such as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
  • Vehicle Operation: Drives vehicles (if required) to perform or travel to cleaning work, including vans, industrial trucks, or industrial vacuum cleaners.
  • Basic Repairs: May be expected to make basic repairs.
  • Miscellaneous Duties: Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
