Custodian

This role supports the Ashtabula County Family YMCA in maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for members and staff. The Custodian will be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing assigned areas, including mopping, dusting, and trash removal. Additionally, the successful candidate will ensure the Y is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintaining upkeep of assigned area and equipment.

1. Clean and sanitize assigned areas, including mopping, dusting, and trash removal.
2. Ensure the Y is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintaining upkeep of assigned area and equipment.
3. Operate related motorized and non-motorized equipment.
4. Record and report all needed repairs; repairs as directed.
5. Ensure YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
6. Replace soap, paper towels, and other supplies.
7. May set up furniture for events.
8. Available for weekend work, on-call duties, and after-hours emergency requests as needed.
9. Occasionally support other departments and complete maintenance duties as needed.

1. Six months or more of related experience preferred.
2. Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
3. Ability to report and record maintenance requests.
4. Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
5. Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.
6. Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.
7. CPR, First Aid and AED certifications required within 30 days of hire.
8. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.

• Medium work. Exerting 50 pounds of force rarely, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
• The worker may be subject to noise.
• Frequently subject to environmental conditions - heat and humidity both inside and outside. May also be exposed to cleaning supplies.
• Ability to: stand, sitting, stooping, kneeling, and crouching frequently throughout the work shift; occasionally ascends/descends a ladder; walking on a variety of uneven surfaces and climbing stairs frequently; have visual acuity to determine safety and cleanliness of facility; receive information through sound as well as express through spoken word; read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents; frequently working with chemicals and cleaning supplies.
