Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Ultrasound Technologist to join our team at Carle Health Methodist Hospital. As a key member of our Medical Imaging department, you will be responsible for performing routine and specialized ultrasound examinations, adapting procedures to obtain specific diagnostic results, and ensuring accurate and complete examinations within guidelines and policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform ultrasound procedures, ensuring accurate and complete examinations within guidelines and policies.
  • Adapt procedures to obtain specific diagnostic results under the direction of a radiologist.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, ensuring their comfort and safety.
  • Exhibit competency in performing ultrasound procedures, demonstrating knowledge of equipment operation and troubleshooting.
  • Image required views, demonstrating appropriate anatomy and pathology.
  • Obtain accurate histories and explain the rationale for procedures to patients and families.
  • Enhance image quality through the use of appropriate transducers and machine settings.
  • Evaluate finished images to ensure diagnostic exams are being submitted to radiologists.
  • Maintain quality care throughout procedures, ensuring patient satisfaction and safety.
  • Assess the abdominal arterial and venous system using color imaging.
  • Maintain working knowledge of equipment, ensuring functionality in all areas of ultrasound.
  • Perform reasonable troubleshooting, resolving technical issues promptly.
  • Maintain a clean work area, checking and stocking supplies, and verifying pertinent accessories.
  • Able to document areas of concern, ensuring accurate and complete records.
  • Set up trays with sterile fields for radiologists, assisting with biopsies as needed.
  • Order labs and pathology tests under the direction of a radiologist.
  • Perform support functions of the Medical Imaging department, ensuring patient expectations and needs are met.
  • Assume personal responsibility for training fellow technologists and students.
  • Promptly process images and paperwork, ensuring timely turnaround in providing reports to physician offices.
  • Maintain and coordinate patient flow, ensuring efficient and expedient patient care.
  • Promptly and accurately enter patient information into the HIS system, ensuring efficient patient throughput.
  • Maintain QA, QC, and QI programs, ensuring quality and safety standards are met.
  • Share knowledge and guide fellow technologists and students with proper department protocol and procedures.
  • Display a professional attitude, fostering mutual respect and creating a productive learning environment.
Requirements
  • 1+ years of experience in ultrasound/sonography.
  • Basic reading, writing, and oral English skills.
  • Accountability, multicultural sensitivity, customer/patient focus, basic computer knowledge, critical thinking skills, and ability to respond appropriately to customers and coworkers.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information, communicate only the facts, and project a professional, friendly, and helpful demeanor.
