Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Teacher Assistant to join our team at Indian Prairie School District. The successful candidate will work closely with students and staff to ensure a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist students with lesson modifications and supplement or change lesson modifications as needed to ensure learning objectives are met.
  • Prompt, cue, and redirect students to keep them on task.
  • Administer curriculum-based tests and quizzes.
  • Ensure students record assignments, have correct materials, and completed assignments for class as appropriate for student needs.
  • Take notes of curriculum presented during class as appropriate for student needs.
  • Provide physical care as needed, including diapering, toileting, feeding, and reinforcing adaptive PE/motor activities.
  • Assist with independent living skills and use physical ability to lift students and perform other manipulations.
  • Regularly required to talk and hear, frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Must be able to read and speak English sufficient to communicate with students and staff and to assist students with instruction.
  • Observe and document student behaviors, communicate activities to teacher and facilitators.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings to review student progress and plan upcoming lessons.
  • Assist with non-instructional activities and maintain safety, behavior, decorum, and order in common areas.
  • Retrieve students from buses at the start of classes and escort students to appropriate buses at the end of classes when required.
  • Record and update student progress toward achievement of individual educational plans.
  • Transport students on District buses to community learning settings.
  • Complete licensure procedures required by Illinois DMV to transport students.
  • Use personal computer and general office equipment, demonstrating proficiency in technology and computer-based programs provided by the District.
Requirements
  • NCLB paraprofessional approval (exempt for those with valid Illinois teaching or substitute certificates).
  • Valid driving license and completion of licensure procedures required by DMV to transport students.
  • Rate of pay: $16.48/hour.
  • Working Conditions: High School, Post-secondary settings. Bus and/or van driving.
