Job Opportunity at Surgery Center of Fairbanks

We are seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Nurse Internship position. As a member of our perioperative team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and contributing to the success of our ambulatory surgery center.

Responsibilities:
  • Participate as a team member in support of the total perioperative process
  • Organize time, equipment, supplies, and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management
  • Supervise and direct patient care in a single operating room
  • Organize nursing activities efficiently and effectively
  • Delegate activities appropriate to the abilities of available staff members
  • Consider cost containment by using supplies economically and in effective turnover time
  • Assist with supply, drug, and equipment inventories to maintain stock level and availability
  • Address patient needs during admission to the operating room, with attention to requirements specific to the outpatient setting
  • Transport patients to the operating room observing policies/procedures, safety requirements, and patient needs
  • Identify the patient and correct surgical intervention according to policy/procedure and communicate such information to all members of the surgical team
  • Review patients' medical records/needs to plan care with other healthcare team members
  • Provide comfort and reassurance to patient
  • Maintain patients' privacy and dignity
  • Explain intraoperative phase of routine procedures and care to the patient
  • Perform the circulating nurse's role and functions following approved operating room procedures to meet the requirements of scheduled procedures
  • Prepare operating room according to requirements of patient/procedure to be performed
  • Assemble and provide properly functioning equipment, supplies, and instruments before start of procedure and positions and adjusts equipment as required during the procedure
  • Anticipate needs of surgical team and assist anesthesia personnel by supporting patient during administration of anesthesia
  • Assist with the proper and safe positioning of the patient and prepares operative site as directed by established procedures
  • Monitor compliance with principles of aseptic technique according to accepted standards
  • Assist with identification and confirmation of operative site
  • Provide for comfort in the physical environment by monitoring designated parameters
  • Provide continuity of patient care by communicating with other perioperative care personnel and documenting records accordingly
  • Respond in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and the physician
  • Accurately comprehend and interpret verbal orders/directions
  • Document patient care records and other forms accurately following policies and procedures
  • Accurately advise others responsible for care of the patient about patient's status
Requirements:
  • High school graduate or GED certificate recipient
  • Graduate of accredited school in nursing
  • RN with active Alaska license
  • CPR certified
  • Leadership qualities
  • Strong ethical and moral character references
  • Language skills adequate for high-level written, interpersonal, and telephone communication in American English
