Job Summary

LabCorp is seeking a Medical Laboratory Specialist to work in a high-volume, production-based environment performing a vital component of clinical lab science.

Key Responsibilities
  • Specimen Evaluation: Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
  • Technical Procedures: Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Instrumentation: Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
  • Problem-Solving: Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem-solving.
  • Quality Control: Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
  • Test Results: Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care.
  • Maintenance: Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
  • Supply Management: Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
  • Specimen Processing: Assist with processing of specimens when needed.
  • Work Environment: Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
Requirements
  • Education: An Associate's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent preferred with 1-3 years of experience, but will train.
  • Certification: ASCP preferred.
  • Communication: Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient with computers; familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Color Vision: Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen.
  • Flexibility: Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.
