Job Summary

The Equipment Operator/Laborer plays a vital role in maintaining Indiana's transportation infrastructure. This position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment, including trucks, tractors, and mowers, to perform tasks such as mowing, trimming, and removing debris.
  • Assist in performing winter maintenance activities, including snow and ice removal, and operate and maintain snow and ice removal equipment.
  • Install and maintain signs, guardrails, and other infrastructure components.
  • Patch, chip, seal, and blacktop roads as needed.
  • Load and dump materials, such as crushed stone and sand, from trucks.
  • Aid in cleaning highways after accidents and removing trash from roadways.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including patrolling duties and ensuring proper care and cleaning of equipment.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to use various hand tools and materials used in highway maintenance.
  • Ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment, including trucks, tractors, and mowers.
  • Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air-brake and tanker endorsement.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds on a routine basis.
Working Conditions

This position requires frequent standing, walking, and sitting, as well as heavy physical effort. Travel time is up to 20% of the workday.
