Ceramic Program Assistant

Location: Prescott, AZ - Part-time (under 20 hours/week)

Estimated Salary: $16.00 hourly

The Ceramics Lab Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the educational goals of the ceramic program under the guidance of experienced instructors.

This part-time position is responsible for:

• Maintaining a clean and organized studio environment
• Ensuring equipment in the studio and kiln yard are in good condition
• Loading electric kilns
• Firing kilns according to specifications
• Mixing glazes and re-mixing clay as needed
• Managing inventory of materials and supplies
• Receiving and distributing deliveries of ceramics-related goods

This temporary part-time position involves working up to 19 hours per week as scheduled.

Essential Qualifications:

• Experience with the ceramic process, including firing, forming, etc.
• Ability to lift heavy loads (50-100lbs) alone or with assistance
• Capacity to work in a dusty environment while wearing necessary safety gear
• Fluency in reading clay and glaze recipes
• Proficiency in using a gram scale
• Awareness of various ceramic tools and equipment, such as clay mixers, pug mills, electric and kick potter's wheels, slab rollers, hydraulic clay extruders, and hand clay extruders

Desirable Skills & Experience:

• Previous experience in a community college/higher education setting
