SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The incumbent will establish and uphold a secure and encouraging educational atmosphere to promote the comprehensive growth of each student and staff member through cultural, social, spiritual, physical, and academic experiences. The role supports the Bureau of Indian Education's mission to deliver high-quality educational opportunities from early childhood through adulthood, while addressing the cultural and economic needs of the tribes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Collaborate with Indian Health Service (IHS) to evaluate the effectiveness of the school health education program across all grade levels, with oversight from a supervisor.
2. Assist in the development of the school health program in partnership with the health committee and school administrators.
3. Participate in the health curriculum committee to create suitable programs and educational materials focused on health and wellness topics.
4. Provide essential diagnostic, treatment, and standard nursing services independently, with access to a Medical Doctor or Physician's Assistant for complex cases.
5. Conduct school health initiatives, including immunizations, physical exams, and sensory screenings as required.
6. Facilitate illness prevention through referrals for therapeutic services, counseling, education, and advocacy beyond basic nursing services.
7. Maintain accurate cumulative health records for all students as the Care Coordinator, collaborating with local health providers for necessary registrations and insurance billing.
8. In the absence of a supervisor, take charge of care for any student or staff member experiencing injury or emergency illness, administering first aid as per established protocols.
9. Implement policies regarding the exclusion and readmission of students related to infectious diseases, assisting school personnel in maintaining sanitary conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must meet the educational and experience requirements outlined in the Bureau of Indian Education Job Category Standards. Registered Nurse candidates should possess an active license and relevant educational background as specified for each level of the position.
