Job Title: Senior National Service Officer, Appeals

Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior National Service Officer, Appeals to join our team. As a key member of our Benefits Services team, you will provide advocacy and support to WWP Alumni and their dependents/families with benefits appeals before the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft and review appeals, including written arguments and oral representation, for WWP Alumni and their dependents/families.
  • Manage appeals dockets and distribute information electronically to field staff.
  • Prepare appellate briefs and conduct hearings docketed at the Board of Veterans Appeals.
  • Review and evaluate the credibility and probative value of medical and lay evidence in claims files.
  • Develop relationships with the Board of Veterans Appeals and other stakeholders to foster a cooperative environment.

Requirements:

  • Five years of experience as a veteran's benefits advocate.
  • Expert knowledge of the laws and regulations pertaining to Veterans benefits.
  • Strong research and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years of experience working appeals under the jurisdiction of the Board of Veterans Appeals.
  • Experience developing appellate and higher-level legal arguments.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, experience, training, and certification.

Certifications and Licensure:

  • Good standing to practice before any court, bar, or state or federal agency, if applicable.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • General office environment; temperature controlled.
  • Up to 20% travel.
