Opportunity for Automation Controls Engineer

A dynamic manufacturer based in Virginia is on the lookout for an Automation Controls Engineer to spearhead the design, enhancement, and supervision of control systems for specialized industrial equipment. In this role, the emphasis will be on crafting and executing state-of-the-art automation solutions aimed at boosting operational performance and efficiency. Join the initiative to bring controls design and integration in-house while continuing to support top-tier product offerings in the industry.

Qualifications for Automation Controls Engineer:
  • At least 2 years of experience in programming and troubleshooting automation systems and associated controls in a professional environment, with a preference for experience in manufacturing or production settings.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (with a focus on Instrumentation & Control systems), or equivalent experience is essential.
  • Expertise in PLCs and automation methodologies is required.
  • Familiarity with Siemens TIA Portal/S7 and Rockwell RSLogix5000 is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of FactoryTalk, WinCC, and/or Wonderware InTouch HMI systems is preferred.
  • The ability to apply engineering principles to address design challenges is crucial.
  • Capacity to work autonomously with minimal oversight is necessary.
  • Willingness to travel for project support is anticipated.
  • Strong communication and computer skills are mandatory.
Key Responsibilities of Automation Controls Engineer:
  • Design and implement PLC-based automation control systems, integrating motion control, sensors, VFD drives, and actuators.
  • Provide ongoing support for existing systems, troubleshooting and ensuring optimal functionality.
  • Program Level 1 control systems based on functional descriptions and layouts.
  • Collaborate with project teams, internal specialists, and clients to engineer solutions for technical challenges.
  • Conduct thorough testing and simulation of systems prior to deployment.
  • Execute on-site commissioning and training sessions as necessary.
