Job Title: Sign Language Interpreter

Join the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation as a Sign Language Interpreter and play a vital role in facilitating communication between hearing-impaired and severely speech-impaired incarcerated individuals and correctional staff.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to provide accurate and effective communication services in a correctional setting. As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will work closely with correctional staff, inmates, and other stakeholders to ensure that all individuals have equal access to communication and services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide sign language interpretation services to facilitate communication between hearing-impaired and severely speech-impaired inmates and correctional staff.
  • Work collaboratively with correctional staff, inmates, and other stakeholders to ensure that all individuals have equal access to communication and services.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with inmates, staff, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and service delivery.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in sign language interpretation and communication access.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of communication access plans and strategies to ensure equal access to services and opportunities for all individuals.
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field, such as sign language interpretation, linguistics, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in sign language interpretation or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of sign language and communication access principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced correctional environment and maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
