Required Skills:
Proficiency in IV starts, ventilator management, telemetry, and CPAP/BiPAP usage, along with the ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias.
Target patient ratios are 1:5-6, accommodating both PCU and Med-Surg/Telemetry patients with a mixed acuity level.
- 12-HOUR NIGHT SHIFTS
Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts within a 6-week period, though staffing needs may necessitate additional shifts.
Patient Demographics:
Patients typically include those with COPD, pneumonia, respiratory distress, COVID-19, influenza, and pulmonary embolisms.
Current Patient Care:
The unit is actively involved in the care of COVID-19 patients, including those who have tested positive.
UNIT OVERVIEW:
The unit operates with a higher acuity level compared to a standard medical-surgical unit, supported by a team lead present at a 3:1 ratio, along with two respiratory therapists and an assistant nurse manager available during shifts, including weekends.
The unit comprises 48 beds and primarily manages patients with COPD exacerbations, pneumonia, acute respiratory failure, and those requiring chest tubes, CPAP, or BiPAP. Many patients present with comorbidities and require telemetry monitoring.Available Resources:

ORIENTATION:
24 hours of orientation is provided. Candidates must pass EKG testing prior to commencing in this specialty.
Shift Information:
Night shifts are structured as 4x12 hours (18:45 - 07:15). The pay package is based on 12-hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation), with a tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
