Student Onboarding Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Student Onboarding Specialist to join our team at Mt. Hood Community College. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing exceptional support to new students, ensuring a smooth transition into our academic community.
Key Responsibilities- Provide holistic guidance to prospective and returning students, navigating them through various processes and systems.
- Support students in their initial stages of major and program exploration, ensuring accurate plans align with their career and life goals.
- Perform evaluation of placement test results, explaining college placement test scores and recommending retests as needed.
- Work with students to identify and address academic progression challenges and barriers, applying knowledge of College and community support services.
- Collaborate with other employees and departments to assist students in navigating difficult or unusual situations and concerns.
- Assist in creating analytics to develop onboarding strategies, increasing student retention and evaluating data to track student progress.
- Provide mentorship and coaching to student employees working in the Student Services Hub.
- Work with marketing and recruitment teams to create media materials supporting onboarding.
- Process payments, issue change or refunds, and reconcile cash drawers daily.
- Provide comprehensive federal and MHCC-specific financial aid processes and regulations to students and parents.
- Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in student services, student affairs, adult education, or a similar environment providing direct services to marginalized or underserved populations.
- Intermediate-level skills in word processing, database, presentation, and email applications, and beginning-level knowledge of spreadsheet applications.
- Experience working with people with diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to promoting access and diversity.
- Experience working as an advisor or similar role supporting 'First Year Experience'/'Onboarding' programs in a college setting.
- Bilingual skills with fluency in English and another language that meets community needs.
The work environment is primarily office-based, with interactions with various individuals. The position requires heavy computer use and repetitive hand/wrist motion for keyboarding functions.
