The role of a Certified Medication Aide (MA-C) involves assisting licensed nurses (RN/LPN) in delivering safe and ethical care to residents. The MA-C will administer prescribed medications in accordance with state regulations and company policies, along with performing other delegated tasks permitted by state law.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist residents in preparing and administering medications as prescribed by physicians.
  • Administer routine medications and treatments as defined by state regulations, adhering to company policies.
  • Monitor residents for adverse reactions to medications and report any concerns to the supervising nurse.
  • Record vital signs prior to administering medications that may affect these readings.
  • Document the administration of medication immediately in the resident's record.
  • Administer PRN medications following nurse assessment and delegation.
  • Communicate any deviations in medication administration to the nurse.
  • Support the nurse in providing care to residents, including observation and reporting of resident needs.
  • Prepare and store medications according to manufacturer or pharmacist instructions.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and organized medication room and cart.
  • Adhere to federal, state, and company regulations to safeguard personal and others' health.
  • Report all resident and workplace incidents to the supervisor without delay.
  • Seek guidance from the nurse as necessary to perform tasks safely and effectively.
  • Provide personal care services and assist residents with daily living activities as required.
  • Respond to medical alert calls promptly and courteously.
  • Participate in initial training, in-service training sessions, and staff meetings as requested.
  • Respect residents' rights at all times.
  • Perform tasks in an ethical, legal, and compassionate manner.
  • Protect confidential resident information diligently.
  • Wear identification badge at all times with the title 'Certified Medication Aide.'
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Certification:
    • Current Medication Aide Certification issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing.
    • Licensure: Active Ohio MA-C certification, CPR, and active STNA certification.
    • Experience: A minimum of 12 months of direct care experience as an STNA is preferred; experience in long-term care is advantageous.
