Diesel Mechanic Position Overview

First Student is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team serving the Independence School District. As a Diesel Mechanic, you will play a critical role in maintaining and repairing our fleet of school buses to ensure vehicle readiness and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance, safety inspections, and annual DOT maintenance inspections on school buses.
  • Diagnose and repair complex vehicle and equipment issues, including brakes, suspensions, drivetrains, and transmissions.
  • Ensure accurate completion of work orders and assist with mobile emergency services.
Requirements
  • Valid driver's license required; willingness to obtain CDL while employed (training provided).
  • At least 3 years of automotive or diesel maintenance and repair experience or technical school education.
  • Possess a mechanic's tool set and willingness to participate in ASE certification program (training, testing, and bonuses provided).
  • Subject to DOT drug testing as a safety-sensitive employee.
Benefits and Advantages
  • $23 - $28 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
  • $1,500 Sign on Bonus (conditions apply).
  • Additional $.25 per hour for each ASE certification possessed or obtained.

  • Monday-Friday, 8 am - 5 pm, full-time shift schedule and consistent, year-round work.
