This is a temporary, fixed-term position for an Adjunct Instructor of English at Indian River State College. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching English courses, grading assignments, and maintaining a safe and effective classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities- Teach English courses to students, including lectures, discussions, and assignments.
- Grade student assignments, quizzes, and exams, and provide feedback to students.
- Maintain a safe and effective classroom environment, including adhering to college policies and procedures.
- Participate in department, division, and general adjunct faculty meetings.
- Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution in English, or a Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate hours in English.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Proven teaching skills, with the ability to convey basic concepts and theories in a practical and comprehensible way.
- Ability to recognize and respond to students from culturally diverse backgrounds.
- Computer literacy and experience using computers in the classroom.
- Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in English.
- Two to five years teaching experience in a post-secondary institution.
- Meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS).
This position requires the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time, and to present oral lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds.
