Job Summary

The Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration is seeking a highly skilled Physician to join our team in the Occupational Medicine/ Employee Health/ Compensation & Pension department. As a Physician in this role, you will be responsible for assisting in the direction, coordination, and supervision of clinical and programmatic efforts for the delivery of Employee / Occupational Health, Environment Registry/Burn Pit, Agent Orange, Persian Gulf and Gulf War Exams and Compensation and Pension in the CWBY Bay Pines VAMC and its community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs).

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative support to provide timely, quality, coordinated care.
  • Utilize and promote approved standards of care, procedures, methods, and techniques, safety precautions, and protocols in their application to this population in all settings.
  • Act as supervising and/or collaborating physician to assigned physicians and NP/PAs.
  • Perform expanded single organ/system compensation and pension exams as indicated.
  • Request consultations and/or make recommendations for additional studies as appropriate.
  • Rend an opinion supported by facts to establish the presence or absence of disease or condition making patient eligible/ineligible for compensation and/or pension.
  • Follow guidance periodically issued by VBA and DMA and as relayed by the medical Director of C&P.
  • Document the above in report format utilizing information technology per standards acceptable to VBA and DMA.
  • Provide leadership in the operations Bay Pines VAMC Occupational Health/Compensation & Pension, including staff training, education, scheduling, and coordination of care within the multi-disciplinary health teams.
  • Review, track, and evaluate quality improvement initiatives related to Occupational Health/Compensation & Pension.
  • Participate and attend medical center committees as assigned by the Chief of Primary Care and the Chief of Staff.
  • Actively stay informed of the status of Occupational Health/Compensation & Pension programs in the VA and disseminate pertinent information to clinical staff at the CWBY Bay Pines VAMC.
  • Assure self-development responsibilities and maintain current knowledge of trends in clinical care and the theory, evidence base, and implementation of Occupational Health Management.
  • Coordinate and participate in clinical research programs when appropriate.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and make sound judgments in high-pressure situations.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment and communicate effectively with colleagues and patients.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Board certified in Occupational Health, Internal Medicine, or Family Medicine.
  • 3-year approved ACGME or equivalent residency.
  • Significant experience in clinical experience in occupational health, primary care, or equivalent clinical background.
