Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center is seeking a skilled Gallery Guide to bring our exhibitions to life for various audiences. As a Gallery Guide, you will deliver engaging tours, facilitate explorations of art, and provide exceptional visitor experiences.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in a comprehensive 12-hour training program to gain the skills and knowledge required for our visitor-centered and inquiry-based tours.
- Deliver engaging tours for various audiences, including public tours, guided group tours, school group visits, and family gallery chats.
- Work closely with the Coordinator of Tour and School Programs to develop and facilitate tours that meet the needs of our diverse audiences.
- Research and develop tours that are relevant and engaging for our visitors.
- Ensure the safety of our art and visitors by following established security procedures.
- Provide exceptional customer service and maintain a high-quality visitor experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to think on your feet and adapt to different situations.
- Previous experience working with the public, preferably in a customer service or educational setting.
- A strong interest in education, contemporary arts, and culture.
- A degree in fine arts, design, architecture, art history, art education, media arts, education, or history is preferred but not essential.
- Comfortable managing large groups and staying on task to complete all aspects of a group visit within specific start and end times.
- Fluency in English, with a strong preference for candidates who are also fluent in Spanish or Vietnamese.
- Experience working with children in an educational setting, or working with people with specific needs, including physical and/or intellectual disabilities and/or autism and/or dementia.
- $20/hour for tours, $15/hour for training and research.
- Flexibility to work a range of days and hours, including 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday and occasional evenings.
- Preference given to candidates who are available from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Wednesday-Friday for School Group Visit Program.
- Ability to work at least two shifts per week or about four to six hours a week.
