VNS Health is seeking a highly skilled Substance Use Counselor to join our team of dedicated professionals. As a Substance Use Counselor, you will play a critical role in providing compassionate care and support to individuals struggling with substance use disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct outreach and engagement activities to locate and enroll clients in our programs and services.
  • Build relationships and trust with clients and their families, providing education and support to help them achieve their recovery goals.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans that address the unique needs of each client.
  • Provide education and guidance on symptom management, coping skills, and resilience-building strategies to empower clients to take an active role in their recovery.
  • Document client progress and outcomes in accordance with program policies and procedures.
  • Participate in case conferences, staff meetings, and training programs to stay up-to-date on best practices and industry developments.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one year experience in a mental health, substance use treatment program, healthcare, or human services setting.
  • Experience working with severely mentally ill, trauma-affected, and substance-using populations preferred.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills required.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in electronic health records, word processing, and data entry required.
  • Valid New York State driver's license, as determined by operational/regional needs.
  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish preferred.
