Infection Control Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled Infection Control Nurse to join our team at the University of New Mexico - Hospitals. As an Infection Control Nurse, you will play a critical role in planning, developing, and implementing infection prevention strategies throughout the Metropolitan Detention Center.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate and recommend appropriate prophylaxis for patients and employees exposed to infectious diseases.
- Develop and maintain documentation on infectious disease trainings and educational classes.
- Coordinate the infection control program, including developing educational classes to meet the infection control needs of a given population.
- Act on recognized trends of disease to establish control programs.
- Participate in committee discussions and offer interventions as necessary.
- Communicate with all staff about infection control problems and provide literature to support advice and action.
- Establish protocols for appropriate culturing of environment and patient care.
- Track and ensure appropriate isolation/negative pressure room maintenance.
- Activate surveillance during peak times of infectious diseases or during an outbreak.
- Review and maintain the annual risk assessment.
- Provide fit testing for employees and perform TB testing and annual vaccination, as assigned.
- Participate in environmental rounds and recognize risks and hazards that may be described in the literature but not listed on a checklist or in a policy.
- Analyze nosocomial infection surveillance data and perform statistical analysis.
- Ensure compliance with all infection control activities required by the Department of Health and organization.
- 1 year of directly related experience as an RN.
- Nationally Accredited Nursing Graduate.
- RN in NM or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by NM.
- CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days.
This position requires working in close proximity to incarcerated individuals and may be subject to initial & ongoing security clearance requirements.
