About Amazon Private Brands

Amazon Private Brands' Discovery team develops cutting-edge machine learning solutions to enhance customer awareness of our private brands and drive discovery throughout the customer journey. This interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers incubates and builds disruptive technologies, tackling complex scientific challenges at Amazon.

We are seeking a Principal Scientist to lead the development of innovative machine learning models and algorithms that will drive discovery solutions for Amazon Private Brands. As a hands-on leader, you will apply your expertise to propose solutions, create software prototypes, and successfully transition these prototypes into production systems using modern software development tools and methodologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define key research directions and adopt or invent new machine learning techniques.
  • Conduct rigorous experiments and publish results to ensure research is translated into practice.
  • Develop long-term strategies, persuade teams to adopt those strategies, propose goals and deliver on them.
  • Participate in organizational planning, hiring, mentorship, and leadership development.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years minimum of hands-on science application experience.
  • PhD in a relevant technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong publication track record.
  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language.
  • Experience in building ML systems for online advertising.

Compensation: The estimated salary for this position ranges from $179,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $309,400/year in our highest geographic market. We offer a total compensation package, including equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
