Job Title: Fire Engineer

Join the City of Hendersonville Fire Department as a Fire Engineer, responsible for performing firefighting work and operating fire apparatus during emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Drive fire apparatus to and from fire scenes or emergency scenes, connecting pumps to water sources and hoses to the pump.
  • Calculate friction loss pumping water and maintain correct pressures for nozzles based on hose sizes and fire conditions.
  • Monitor radio transmissions and relay messages as needed.
  • Participate in post-fire operations, including cleaning and salvage, and conduct fire prevention education.
  • Conduct residential and business fire prevention inspections, and maintain knowledge of sprinkled buildings and hydrant locations.
  • Perform daily apparatus checks, including checking the pump, lights, warning devices, and generator on the apparatus.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Three (3) years of experience with a Firefighter Level II certification.
  • Possession of a valid Class B driver's license to operate a motor vehicle.
  • IFSAC or Pro-Board certifications, including Firefighter Level II, Hazmat Operations Level, Emergency Vehicle Driver Certification, Driver Operator Pumps, and Driver Operator Aerials.
  • NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800, NC Emergency Medical Technician EMT-Basic (or National Registry), and NHTSA Child Passenger Safety Certified Technician certifications.
Working Conditions:

Work is primarily performed in both inside and outside environmental conditions, including extreme heat and cold. Employee is subject to noise, vibration, and hazards, including proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working in high places, exposure to high heat, and exposure to chemicals.
