Unlike other arts organizations, we offer a pathway for educators who lack certification to teach in public schools, assisting them in developing their programs and ultimately securing employment within the Department of Education. Our impact spans all five boroughs, collaborating with 50 public schools and delivering music education to over 18,000 students. Key Responsibilities:

  • Acting as the music faculty within the school
  • Collaborating with program staff to design and implement the in-school music curriculum
  • Organizing two major concerts annually
  • Participating in school-wide events such as assemblies and graduations
  • Developing comprehensive lesson plans
  • Evaluating and enhancing existing educational processes

Note: Candidates who do not currently possess 'eligible' status for classroom teaching from the NYC Department of Education (DOE) will need to undergo a fingerprinting and background check through the NYC DOE PETS system. Only those cleared by the DOE and granted 'eligible' status may be considered for employment.

Salary Range:

$52,324 - $62,212 annually

Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Music, Arts, or a related field
  • 1-3 years of experience teaching groups of up to 30 children
  • Ability to demonstrate quality singing in front of students
  • Strong musical knowledge
  • Familiarity with musical pedagogy

*** Must be able to navigate several flights of stairs and lift equipment weighing up to 15lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Music Education or a related field
  • Certification to teach in New York State or another state
  • 3-5 years of teaching experience in New York City Public Schools
  • Skills in singing, conducting, keyboard, guitar, and presentation are advantageous
  • Experience teaching Band, Orchestra, Modern Band, and Choir
  • Familiarity with music technology software such as Soundtrap
