The Financial Operations Specialist will report directly to the Executive Director of Financial Operations for Parishes and Schools. This role encompasses the management of financial activities and the evaluation of internal control systems. There is potential for advancement into senior roles such as senior accountant, manager, or director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Continuously assess parish financial performance using the ParishSoft accounting platform to identify and address discrepancies.
  • Examine parish financial reports and internal audit findings to detect patterns and issues.
  • Create customized reports from the ParishSoft Accounting and FamilySuite systems for enhanced analysis and reporting.
  • Ensure adherence to archdiocesan standards for parish accounting and internal controls through internal audits and oversight of external audit processes.
  • Compile financial summaries, highlighting key issues and metrics for management review.
  • Resolve accounting and administrative challenges at parishes through detailed inquiry and analysis.
  • Offer guidance and support on accounting and administrative matters to parish leaders and financial staff.
  • Provide training and assistance to parish financial staff on the ParishSoft Accounting system and the archdiocesan accounting guidelines.
  • Recommend enhancements to accounting policies and procedures based on identified challenges and solutions.

Qualifications

Essential Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • 3-5 years of experience in accounting, auditing, or financial analysis.
  • Preferred but not mandatory: a) CPA certification or progress towards it, b) experience in internal auditing, and c) familiarity with parish financial operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Active member of the Catholic faith with a solid understanding of the Church's mission.
  • Knowledge of accrual accounting and internal control measures.
  • Ability to analyze financial statements to identify trends and issues.
  • Experience in preparing financial reports and analyses for strategic discussions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Technical aptitude to master the parish accounting system, ParishSoft Accounting, and the FamilySuite contribution system.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and recall financial matters across multiple parish entities.
  • Professional demeanor and judgment to address issues with the Executive Director and parish personnel.
  • Collaborative and approachable work style to engage with various archdiocesan departments.

This position is primarily office-based, involving collaboration at both the archdiocesan center and various parishes.
