- Collaborate effectively with colleagues to meet departmental goals while upholding patient rights and confidentiality.
- Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with best practices and enhance your skills.
- Prepare operating rooms by scrubbing and setting up necessary instruments and supplies, adhering to departmental policies and surgeon preferences.
- Assist in surgical procedures by draping patients, preparing operative sites, and holding retractors as needed.
- Perform suturing and utilize various techniques for clamping and suctioning during operations.
- Educate new staff on techniques and procedures used in the operating room.
- Maintain inventory and ensure proper labeling and transportation of specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Support housekeeping efforts post-surgery to ensure a clean and orderly environment.
- Manage supplies and equipment efficiently, ensuring all items are stored correctly and are readily available for use.
- Work closely with the perioperative team to provide comprehensive care and demonstrate proficiency in all surgical specialties.
- Assist registered nurses in coordinating supplies and equipment as needed.
- Uphold essential functions, including effective communication with medical staff and patients, regular mobility, and the ability to lift and move patients.
- Adapt to working conditions typical of a surgical suite, including exposure to various health hazards.
- Complete necessary orientations and training as required for new employees.
Licensure / Certification:
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association is required within six months of hire.
- Certification as a Surgical Assistant from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting is preferred.
Education:
- Completion of an accredited scrub technician program is preferred, or a minimum of two years of experience as a Surgical Technician.
