Job Overview

Position: Fire Alarm Technician

The Fire Alarm and Detection Technician plays a crucial role in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, inspection, and programming of fire alarm systems and other low voltage solutions across various sectors including commercial, industrial, and healthcare facilities. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage daily tasks related to the assembly, installation, and repair of fire alarm and low voltage systems.
  • Install and maintain alarm panels, visual/audible alarms, pull stations, and detectors for fire alarm systems.
  • Utilize digital multi-meters to troubleshoot issues such as ground faults, shorts, and open circuits in fire alarm and low voltage systems.
  • Install and service communicators for monitoring systems.
  • Fabricate, assemble, install, and maintain conduits, junction boxes, terminals, and equipment for fire alarm and low voltage systems.
  • Cut, ream, and bend conduits to meet specifications using appropriate tools.
  • Strip, pull, and terminate wires to fire alarm devices using various methods.
  • Inspect, examine, and test installed systems using specialized fire alarm testing equipment.
  • Program new fire alarm and low voltage panels.
  • Create detailed layouts of fire alarm systems, supports, and related equipment based on blueprints.
  • Interpret construction documents including plans, specifications, and contracts.
  • Guide teams to adhere to budgets and project timelines.
  • Ensure quality and customer satisfaction throughout all project phases.
  • Communicate any issues impacting production, materials, schedules, or costs to leadership.
  • Act as a mentor and trainer for team members.
  • Prioritize safety in all tasks, including conducting Daily Huddles and Tool Box Talks.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of applicable NFPA and Life Safety codes.
  • Assess equipment needs and take responsibility for all tools and materials in your possession.
  • Ensure the upkeep of company vehicles and complete necessary documentation.
  • Prepare accurate documentation for work performed and maintain inventory for effective customer response.
  • Adhere to company safety policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.
  • Deliver a positive customer experience.
  • Exhibit a strong work ethic and attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • Experience in service roles.
  • Technical aptitude.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Customer-focused mindset.
  • Ability to thrive in uncertain situations.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Training from an Electronic Trade School is advantageous.
  • Journeyman's License preferred but not required with a minimum of 2 years related experience, apprenticeship exceptions apply.
  • Must obtain and retain any necessary licenses as per state and local regulations.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug tests, background checks, and reference checks.
