Job Title: Critical Care Stepdown Registered Nurse

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Critical Care Stepdown Registered Nurse to join our team. As a Critical Care Stepdown Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care to critically ill patients in a stepdown unit. You will work closely with our interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized plans of care, ensuring the best possible outcomes for our patients.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform comprehensive body system assessments promptly and accurately, including pain assessment.
  • Assess patient and family educational needs and expectations of hospitalization.
  • Incorporate clinical indicators (labs, radiology, vital signs) in SBAR hand-off reports to physicians or other staff.
  • Assess the biological, psychological, physical, and cultural needs of patients and families.
  • Recognize and provide ongoing assessment of any changes in patient condition.
  • Collaborate with all disciplines to provide for assessed needs of assigned patients.
  • Show autonomy in conversing with physicians and physician assistants in every interaction.
  • Monitor, recognize, and report abnormal test results.
  • Provide health education and procedural information to patients and families based on assessed needs.
  • Follow the chain of command and serve as the patient advocate within applicable laws and patient rights.
  • Implement individual interventions from the plan of care.
  • Develop and evaluate plans of care based on assessed needs of patients and families.
  • Ensure the workplace is clean and ready for anticipated activities.
  • Serve as a resource to others and precept students and new hires.
  • Document appropriately for transfer of patient care inter- and intra-agency.
  • Demonstrate skills in using special equipment such as monitors, infusion pumps, or oxygen equipment.
  • Exhibit sound time management skills to prioritize care for patients.
  • Manage time effectively to minimize the burden to the next shift.
Requirements:
  • Current state nursing license.
  • Experience with vasoactive drips, tracheostomy vents, DKA, insulin drips, etc.
  • Ability to provide care independently to assigned patients.
  • Must live 50+ miles away.
