Job Title: Staff Full Stack Engineer

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Full Stack Engineer to join our team at Lilt. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying large-scale, distributed software systems that enable our customers to deliver multilingual, digital customer experiences at scale.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop high-quality, scalable software systems using React, JavaScript, CSS, and HTML
  • Work with our team to propose ideas, define, drive, and execute projects on Lilt's Linguist GUI, App Server, and backend systems
  • Collaborate with linguists to deliver truly localized experiences
  • Lead an engineering team in a technical capacity, guiding the development of large-scale software systems
  • Work on large-scale, distributed software systems, leveraging expertise in backend technologies such as Java and Python
  • Develop and maintain solid relational database knowledge, with significant experience working with very large MySQL installations
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest natural language processing (NLP) techniques and ideas, applying them to our backend systems

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Computer Science (Master's preferred)
  • 4+ years of professional experience as a Full Stack engineer
  • Experience leading an engineering team in a technical capacity
  • Experience working on large-scale, distributed software systems
  • Proficient in React or other associated libraries, JavaScript, CSS, and HTML
  • Experience with backend technologies such as Java and Python
  • Solid relational database knowledge and significant experience with very large MySQL installations
  • Basic knowledge of NLP and machine learning techniques
  • Professional fluency in English

About Lilt:

Lilt is a high-performance, large-scale language translation system. We invest in and prioritize workflow (i.e., usability and interface design) and backend AI systems. Since the translation workforce is distributed worldwide, there are interesting cloud engineering problems to solve. We have a strong preference for building our own backend technology, so you'll be implementing and working with the latest natural language processing (NLP) techniques and ideas.

Our Story:

Our founders, Spence and John met at Google working on Google Translate. As researchers at Stanford and Berkeley, they both worked on language technology to make information accessible to everyone. They were amazed to learn that Google Translate wasn't used for enterprise products and services inside the company and left to start a new company to address this need – LILT. At its core, LILT has always been a machine learning company since its incorporation on March 6, 2015. At the time, machine translation didn't meet the quality standard for enterprise translations, so LILT assembled a cutting-edge research team tasked with closing that gap.
