Position Overview:

The Field Equipment Technician (FET) is tasked with the upkeep and repair of light construction machinery (such as skid steers, chippers, trenchers, mini-excavators, etc.) at various retail locations or client job sites in the surrounding area.

The FET conducts regular visits to each retail location to assess all machinery, record the condition of each unit, execute necessary preventive maintenance, and finalize work orders for repairs and servicing.

This role reports directly to the regional management team.


Core Responsibilities:
  • Communication (10%):
    Educates retail associates and clients on the correct usage of equipment and large machinery operational protocols.
  • Compliance (40%):
    Adheres to safety regulations specific to equipment, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
    Maintains certifications for Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWP).
    Ensures accurate inventory of parts in the vehicle or workshop.
    Manages fleet inventory and coordinates equipment transfers between locations.
    Guarantees vehicle compliance with company, federal, and driver performance standards.
    Facilitates the deployment of new equipment to retail locations, which includes conducting Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDIs), delivering to the site, and training associates on equipment operation.
  • Maintenance (50%):
    Accountable for the upkeep of a fleet of rental machinery at designated retail locations or client job sites, with a strong focus on preventive maintenance.
    Conducts routine inspections and preventive maintenance on all units at each location.
    Evaluates equipment for rental readiness, safe operation, and adherence to appearance standards.
    Performs minor repairs on machinery.
    Responds to service requests and orders necessary parts for maintenance and repairs.
    Utilizes company technology to document all work performed on equipment, including labor and parts used.
    Assists with the delivery and retrieval of equipment as needed.
    Completes additional tasks as assigned by management.

Management Structure:

This position typically reports to the Regional Field Operations Manager and has no direct reports.


Travel Requirements:

Generally requires minimal overnight travel, less than 10% of the time.


Physical Demands:

Involves intermittent periods of continuous physical activity, including walking, standing, bending, climbing, and lifting materials or equipment, some of which may be heavy or cumbersome.


Work Environment:

Primarily operates in a comfortable setting but may encounter moderate physical discomfort due to factors such as dust, fumes, or odors.
