Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Hardware Development Director to lead our hardware development efforts in the new Automotive Design Center in Mountain View, CA.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a strategic vision for hardware development, aligning it with the company's overall business strategy and long-term goals.
  • Direct multiple hardware engineering teams, fostering a high-performance culture and promoting collaboration, integrity, inclusion, transparency, accountability, and compassion.
  • Oversee and align budgets and staffing demands across hardware development teams, ensuring successful identification, evaluation, and endorsement of technical solutions.
  • Lead the development of talent pipelines and succession plans to ensure a robust and skilled workforce for the future.
  • Act as an advocate for the hardware development division, representing its interests to executive leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration and communication across multiple hardware engineering teams, ensuring that information and best practices are shared effectively.
Requirements
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in hardware development.
  • 7+ years of leadership experience in the automotive industry.
  • Experience in developing strategies for R&D.
  • Experience with mass product production is critical.
  • Proficiency in managing teams, including senior engineers and senior managers.
  • Proven ability to cope with conflict, stress, and crisis situations.
  • Proven ability to develop a strategic vision for hardware development that aligns with the company's overall business strategy.
  • Able to manage team differences within a culturally diverse environment.
  • Deep knowledge of hardware development processes and experienced with an introduction into mass production of the same.
  • Proficiency in identifying and mitigating risks associated with hardware development projects and initiatives, ensuring successful outcomes.
  • Ability to mentor team members and senior managers, facilitating skill development across various disciplines and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  • Experience in developing complex hardware products using agile methods & processes across large, distributed organizations.
  • Skill in optimizing resource allocation, including personnel, budget, and technology, to achieve project goals efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Demonstrated successes in developing strong long-term working relationships across many layers of an international organization and across cultural boundaries.
  • Developing products for mass production.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • Infotainment and Driver Assistance Systems is desired.
Work Arrangements

Monday and Friday: Work from Home (WFH)

Tuesday-Thursday: Onsite in Mountain View, CA

Travel Requirements

Worldwide locations required, less than 25% (about once a quarter / Germany, India)

Compensation

$200k-$300k+

Company-appointed Car: Fuel stipend/Insurance/Maintenance all covered
