As a Clinical Nurse Specialist at UC San Diego Health, you will be part of a team that provides leading-edge care in patient care, biomedical research, education, and community service. Our facilities include two university hospitals, a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, Shiley Eye Institute, Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center, the only Burn Center in the county, and dozens of outpatient clinics.

Under the direct supervision of the clinic manager and the general supervision of the clinic providers and licensed nursing staff, you will perform a wide variety of patient care activities in support of clinic activity. This will require specific knowledge and training in patient care duties within business and professions code of the State of California and/or TJC regulations.

Responsibilities will include patient triage processing, preparation, and assistance with patient examinations, administering medications, drawing blood, collecting and preparing laboratory tests, and patient education. As needed, you will also assist with front office functions, including patient scheduling, environmental care functions, equipment/supply management, and cleaning/disinfecting the clinic environment.

Requirements for this position include three years of experience in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine environment. You should have knowledge of the normal range of values for vital signs, emergency procedures, and of basic lab and infection control procedures; standard items used to stock exam rooms. Additionally, you should have proven ability to successfully manage clinic flow and answer incoming calls or messages.

Preferred qualifications include recent experience in a similar role and setting, knowledge in medical terminology, online scheduling, universal precautions, and proper use of body mechanics. You should also have general knowledge of pharmaceuticals and be able to process PARs. Bilingual speaking in Mandarin is also a plus. Experience with EPIC and Cadence module, Point of Care Testing, and Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma and/or process improvement are also desired.
