Job Summary
InsideHigherEd seeks a highly skilled Ombuds Officer to join our team. As an Ombuds Officer, you will be responsible for receiving and addressing complaints, concerns, and inquiries from employees regarding a broad range of employment-related issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide active listening and assistance to employees in identifying resources and potential paths to resolution.
- Maintain impartiality and confidentiality, operating independently from other institutional offices.
- Develop and maintain relationships with employees, management, and other stakeholders to promote a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Stay up-to-date with relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in conflict resolution and employee relations.
- Collaborate with HR and other departments to develop and implement policies and procedures that promote employee well-being and resolve conflicts.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- At least five years of experience in conflict resolution, employee relations, or a related field.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate degree in a related field.
- Seven years of experience in conflict resolution, employee relations, or a related field.
- Membership in the International Ombuds Association.
- Experience working in higher education and familiarity with university populations, shared governance, and cultural norms.
