Job Summary

InsideHigherEd seeks a highly skilled Ombuds Officer to join our team. As an Ombuds Officer, you will be responsible for receiving and addressing complaints, concerns, and inquiries from employees regarding a broad range of employment-related issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide active listening and assistance to employees in identifying resources and potential paths to resolution.
  • Maintain impartiality and confidentiality, operating independently from other institutional offices.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with employees, management, and other stakeholders to promote a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Stay up-to-date with relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in conflict resolution and employee relations.
  • Collaborate with HR and other departments to develop and implement policies and procedures that promote employee well-being and resolve conflicts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • At least five years of experience in conflict resolution, employee relations, or a related field.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in a related field.
  • Seven years of experience in conflict resolution, employee relations, or a related field.
  • Membership in the International Ombuds Association.
  • Experience working in higher education and familiarity with university populations, shared governance, and cultural norms.
