Position Overview
  • A healthcare facility is seeking a seasoned GI/Endoscopy Technician for a travel role.
  • Typical Diagnoses/Patient Types: General and advanced gastrointestinal cases including esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), colonoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), Ion, Bravo, and gastrointestinal bleeding.
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: Proof of vaccination is required or a declination form with supporting documentation from a clergy member or medical doctor.
Job Requirements
  • Applicants must not have been employed in Arizona for the previous 12 months as a permanent staff member and should not currently hold a position at an acute care hospital or healthcare system in Arizona.
  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience and possess an active BLS certification.
Work Schedule
  • Shifts generally run from 7 AM to 5:30 PM, with flexibility in start and end times based on case volumes.
  • Support is available on Sundays for the primary technician on call, following a rotation schedule.
  • Self-scheduling is encouraged, with shifts typically adhering to the 7 AM to 5:30 PM timeframe, adjusted as necessary.
  • Weekend Duties: Backup support on Sundays for the primary technician on call, following a rotation schedule.
  • Holiday Duties: None required.
  • On-call Requirements: Occasional late stays on rotation for the final cases of the day, with a response time of 30 minutes.
Unit Specific Information
  • Unit: Endoscopy Technology
  • Facility Capacity: 2 procedure rooms, 15 pre/post-procedure beds
  • Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1 RN to 2 patients
  • Essential Skills: Endoscopy technicians must demonstrate solid, meticulous high-level disinfection skills and possess strong general gastrointestinal skills for procedures including biopsies, snaring, gastrointestinal bleeding management, injections, banding, and dilation using balloons or savory/Maloney dilators.
Additional Information
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent experience required, ideally within the last 6 months.
  • Tele/Monitor Technicians: Not present on this unit; RN's are not required to interpret their own strips.
  • Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: Charge nurses may take on assignments as needed.
  • Nurse Aides: Not available on this unit.
  • RT/Equipment: Anesthesia manages all endoscopic cases.
  • Dress Code: Hospital-provided scrubs (blue).
  • Unit Orientation: Yes, specific to the unit.
  • Additional Notes: High volume of advanced gastrointestinal cases, approximately 20 cases per day; advanced gastrointestinal skills for EUS, EBUS, ERCP, and stone management are preferred.
