Role Overview

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for delivering comprehensive respiratory care to patients across various health conditions. This role involves thorough assessment, strategic planning, effective implementation, and ongoing evaluation of respiratory care plans. As a vital component of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, the Respiratory Therapist ensures direct patient care and prepares patients for continued care post-discharge.

Educational Requirements

  • Completion of an Associate Degree Level program accredited by CoARC in Respiratory Therapy.

Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of 6 months of experience as a Respiratory Therapist at RRMC.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Current license to practice in the state of Vermont.
  • BLS Certification from the American Heart Association.
  • ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications must be acquired within 60 days of employment.
  • Registration as a Respiratory Therapist (not applicable for those hired before a specified date).
  • Completion of a Cardiac Dysrhythmia course (Stress Testing Therapist).
  • Completion of STABLE training.

Essential Skills and Competencies

  • Preferred basic EKG interpretation skills.
  • Proficient knowledge in respiratory care assessment and mechanical ventilation management.
  • Ability to administer surfactants to neonates.
  • Familiarity with respiratory equipment and Heliox usage.
  • Completion of clinical competencies for endotracheal intubation and other necessary skills.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Windows applications and navigation.
  • Willingness to be on-call and work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with the potential for short-notice shift coverage.
  • Capability to conduct cardiac stress tests (day shift requirement).
  • Expertise in providing high-level direct clinical care.
  • Strong critical thinking abilities applicable to all facets of patient care.
  • Conflict resolution capabilities.
  • Able to lead shifts in the absence of supervisory staff.

Compensation Details

Pay Range: $39.98; Hiring Bonus Agreement: $10,000.00

Competitive Differential Rates

  • $4.25 - Evening Shifts
  • $8.00 - Night Shifts
  • $4.75 - Weekend Shifts
