- Operate yard trucks and tractor trailers around the yard and position at warehouse dock for unloading and loading.
- Conduct yard checks (reefer temps if needed).
- Check fuel levels in refrigeration units and refuel them as necessary.
- Maintain time and production records, computer and manual.
- Wash and clean trailers and tractors whenever necessary.
- Conduct visual inspections of equipment and report findings to fleet maintenance.
- Provide exceptional quality and customer service at all times when on the road.
- Unload grocery, perishable, and frozen product at customer stores and store in designated areas.
- Use proper safety techniques (SIM) to ensure safety and prevent product damage.
- Ensure accurate delivery of product at each location.
- Complete delivery documents and load paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
- Accurately read labels, manifests, invoices, and other paperwork.
- Properly use ramps, straps, load bars, barriers, and hand trucks to prevent damage to product and trailer, and ensure all-around safety.
- Assist driver with dispatch preparation and route return processes.
- Promptly report any issues or problems to Transportation Supervisor/Manager.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 1 year of yard driver experience.
- Preferred 2 years of yard driver experience, with additional driver's helper experience.
- Must possess a valid Driving License.
- Ability to read and comprehend written instructions.
- Ability to communicate with management, drivers, helpers, and customers.
- Ability to add, subtract, and verify quantities of products.
- 100% travel.
- Must be available to work weekdays and weekends, including nights, holidays, and overnight routes.
- Must wear approved company uniform while on duty.
- Exposure to vibrations, dust, dirt, noise, fumes, and chemicals.
- Working in hot and cold temperature extremes.
- Working in all weather conditions, including rain, wind, snow, ice, and darkness.
- Working in uneven terrain with recurring obstacles.
- Closed-toe shoes are required at all times.
- Compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- Authorization to work in the United States, or the ability to obtain the same.
