In light of our strategic growth plans, we are looking to expand our skilled estimating department. This role will report directly to the Chief Estimator within the Commercial Pre-Construction division and will frequently collaborate with our Operations and estimating support teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the entire bid recap process, including drafting proposal letters and completing bid forms and breakdowns.
  • Participate in bid review meetings prior to proposal submissions.
  • Track all addenda, scope modifications, and breakdowns to ensure timely incorporation into estimates.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders regarding project specifications, scope, reports, value engineering options, timelines, and other bid-related matters.
  • Confirm the accuracy of the systems specifications summary.
  • Lead the assigned take-off team in project discussions to clarify expectations and requirements for precise take-offs.
  • Conduct quantity take-offs for Equipment/Fixtures and analyze project plans/specifications to fully understand the project scope.
  • Identify any gaps in labor, scope, and material pricing.
  • Review vendor and subcontractor scope letters for accuracy while maintaining strong relationships and communication regarding scope, pricing gaps, and necessary breakdowns for timely bid completion.
  • Facilitate the pre-construction collaboration between sales and estimating to optimize estimating resources for achieving sales and marketing objectives.
  • Utilize market insights, customer needs, competitive capabilities, and internal resource availability to address current and anticipated workload demands.
  • Develop, monitor, and refine departmental processes to maximize productivity while minimizing acceptable risk.
  • Work with limited guidance under broad supervision.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary to support departmental goals.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical contracting as an Estimator or in a related role.
  • Strong knowledge of Piping, Plumbing, and Sheetmetal systems.
  • Experience with system costs across various applications and building types.
  • Ability to generate comprehensive conceptual estimates for design-build projects based on mechanical system narratives.
  • Experience in presenting construction projects during interviews.
  • Extensive understanding of how corporate objectives influence estimating strategies and techniques across different construction contracts.
  • Proficient in interpreting contractual documents, plans, and specifications.
  • Some coursework or practical experience in basic mechanical systems and engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with computerized estimating systems (Our client utilizes ESTMEP for PVF take-offs and BlueBeam for drawings).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
