Job Overview

CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center - Bergan Mercy is seeking a skilled Traveling Med-Surg Nurse to join their team in Eastern Nebraska. As a Med-Surg Nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care to patients with a variety of medical conditions.

Responsibilities
  • Certification Requirements
    • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) is required, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is preferred.
  • Job Details
    • The hospital is seeking both day and night shift coverage for a 12-hour shift.
    • The Med-Surg unit typically has multiple discharges and admissions in one day, requiring nurses to manage the business of the day, have good attendance, be a team player, friendly, compassionate, and prioritize patient care.
  • Unit Specific Information
    • The unit serves patients of all cultures, including Spanish, Karen, and Burmese.
    • The unit has a big focus on hourly rounding and responsiveness.
    • Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:5-6.
  • Additional Details
    • The unit has 55 beds.
    • There are nurse aids/patient care techs on the unit, with ratios of 1:10-20.
    • Tele/Monitor Techs are available to interpret strips, and RNs should have some tele awareness.
Requirements
  • ACLS Preferred, BLS.
  • Common diagnosis/types of patients: MedSurg/Tele - joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, failure to thrive.
  • Are RN's required to titrate drips?: Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine.
  • Common titratable &/or set rate drips: PCA pumps.
