Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Material Handler role is essential for ensuring that production machinery, including printing presses and converting equipment, is consistently supplied with necessary materials. This position plays a critical role in the timely production of high-quality flexible packaging solutions while adhering to established safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough inspections of tools and equipment at the start and end of each shift to maintain cleanliness and functionality, reporting any issues to Maintenance as needed.
  • Take ownership of the warehouse area by organizing materials, ensuring proper labeling, and maintaining a clutter-free environment to uphold inventory accuracy.
  • Perform daily checks on forklifts and document findings to ensure safe operation.
  • Safely operate forklifts and other machinery, promptly reporting any incidents or damages to the appropriate personnel.
  • Work diligently to keep production machines stocked with materials, minimizing downtime and ensuring that all scheduled supplies are received on time.
  • Accurately label and document all material movements to maintain inventory integrity.
  • Secure materials for transport by wrapping, banding, and labeling pallets appropriately.
  • Follow FIFO (first in, first out) procedures for material handling.
  • Assist in conducting monthly physical inventory checks at various locations.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and quality procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and Quality Manual.
  • Contribute to a collaborative work environment by assisting in other departments and participating in cleanup activities as needed.
  • Engage in continuous improvement initiatives and support 6S and Kaizen events.

Performance Expectations:

  • Commit to PPC's Safety Culture, aiming for Zero Safety Incidents and adherence to GMP and food safety standards.
  • Maintain a record of no more than 20 inventory accuracy errors within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Limit downtime to one instance at any asset during the initial 90 days.
  • Follow attendance policies as detailed in the Employee Handbook.
  • Complete assigned housekeeping tasks and ensure proper care of equipment to prevent damage.

Qualifications:

  • Strong attention to detail for accurate documentation and data entry.
  • Preferred experience in material handling, forklift certification (reach truck), and mechanical skills.
  • Background in an industrial production setting with relevant safety training is advantageous.
  • Able to interpret production schedules and follow verbal instructions effectively.
  • Competent in basic math, measurement tools, and material inspection techniques.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and production demands.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on teamwork and continuous improvement.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift and handle items weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary, including potential overnight trips.
  • Must successfully complete company forklift certification within a designated timeframe.
  • Capability to stand for extended periods during shifts, with breaks included.
  • Readiness to work beyond standard hours as production needs arise.
  • Ability to assess product quality in a fast-paced environment.
  • Skills to prioritize and meet multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Physical dexterity to perform various tasks as required by the position.
  • Local travel may be necessary as part of the role.
  • Willingness to receive training on the handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
