Position Overview:

The primary responsibility of the Night Custodian is to ensure a hygienic and secure environment for students, staff, and the community at large.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent is expected to accomplish the following tasks with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Perform cleaning duties in all designated areas as instructed by a supervisor, adhering to established protocols.
  • Guarantee that custodial tasks are executed efficiently and safely, enhancing the overall safety and cleanliness of the premises.
  • Follow local regulations and organizational procedures for the storage and disposal of cleaning supplies, chemicals, and waste; handle chemicals in accordance with safety guidelines.
  • Conduct floor maintenance including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and spot cleaning as necessary.
  • Dust and sanitize various surfaces such as shelves, lockers, furniture, and fixtures as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness of chalkboards, walls, and windows as needed.
  • Execute floor care tasks including stripping, waxing, and sealing wood floors upon request.
  • Perform minor repair tasks such as changing light bulbs and addressing plumbing issues as directed.
  • Report emergencies, vandalism, and other urgent matters to the supervisor promptly.
  • Secure premises by managing access points and inspecting property for safety.
  • Safeguard assigned keys and maintain the security of the grounds; communicate with security personnel regarding shift timings and concerns.
  • Assist in moving furniture and equipment as required, seeking help when necessary.
  • Properly manage custodial equipment and supplies, notifying supervisors of any shortages.
  • Set up and dismantle furniture for events as instructed.
  • Document any incidents or hazardous conditions and report them to the appropriate authorities.
  • Operate all cleaning equipment and tools safely and responsibly.
  • Be available for emergency assignments or overtime as needed.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility, organizational skills, and the ability to make sound decisions.
  • Basic reading, writing, and math skills.
  • Interpersonal skills to engage with diverse populations effectively.
  • Familiarity with the community and organizational policies.

  • Ability to accurately use measuring tools.
  • Skill in identifying emergency situations and reporting them appropriately.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

A high school diploma is required, along with completion of a custodial training program. All custodial staff must also complete mandatory safety training.

The role requires the ability to lift and move items weighing over 75 pounds, necessitating physical stamina and strength.
