Sacramento, California, United States St. HOPE Full time

Position Overview

About St. HOPE Public Schools

Established in 2003, St. HOPE Public Schools is dedicated to the mission of cultivating self-driven, industrious, and critically thinking leaders who are devoted to serving others, enthusiastic about lifelong learning, and prepared to pursue a degree from a four-year institution. Our network comprises three charter schools: PS7 Elementary School, PS7 Middle School, and Sacramento Charter High School, all situated in the Oak Park area of Sacramento.

We have elevated educational standards, achieving remarkable outcomes in bridging the achievement gap and enabling our scholars to realize their maximum potential. Our student demographics reflect a significantly higher proportion of minority and low-income scholars, yet our state assessment scores consistently surpass district averages. Notable achievements include:

  • Sacramento Charter High School was acknowledged by the California Charter Schools Association (CCSA) as the top-performing high school for black students in California.
  • PS7 and Sacramento Charter High School were honored as California Education Champions by the National Action Network for being among 16 predominantly African American schools that excelled in the top 25% of all California schools, each scoring a perfect 10/10 against similar institutions.
  • PS7 has been recognized twice with the Title 1 Achievement Award and has earned the California Distinguished School designation and nomination as a federal Blue Ribbon School for its educational success with low-income students.
  • In 2020, 93% of Sac High scholars gained acceptance into four-year colleges, boasting one of the highest rates of admission to UCs and CSUs in the Sacramento region. All our scholars graduated meeting UC/CSU requirements, compared to district and state averages of 44%. Additionally, 100% of our scholars with an IEP graduated meeting UC/CSU requirements, significantly higher than district averages of 12% and state averages of 15%.

At St. HOPE Public Schools, we recognize the transformative power of effective teaching and understand that three consecutive years of exceptional instruction can mitigate the achievement gap faced by low-income scholars. We are committed to this belief and emphasize collaboration to build upon student success year after year. Alignment is crucial; we strive to ensure that various educators, grade levels, curricula, and academic focuses are harmonized and functioning cohesively. We invest time with our educators to design curricula that transition seamlessly across grades and foster a collaborative work environment with consistent expectations and support across grades and campuses.

  • At PS7 Middle School, our outcomes demonstrate the impact of three years of quality teaching. Our 6th graders enter our system with only 9% on or above grade level in math, compared to the district average of 25%. After three years at PS7 Middle, that same cohort promotes from 8th grade with 48% on or above grade level in math, exceeding the district average of 32%. This trend is similarly observed in English Language Arts, where 6th graders start with 25% on or above grade level and promote with 57% on or above grade level, compared to the district average of 43%.

Beyond academic excellence, we prioritize a positive school culture. We organize numerous engaging events for scholars and families throughout the academic year, aiming to provide a comprehensive experience with a wider array of elective courses than traditional schools offer. We value our educators and provide each teacher with a comprehensive coaching and support plan to develop them into outstanding educators. Their daily efforts are vital to creating a successful learning environment for our scholars.

St. HOPE is not only about education; it also encompasses a family of nonprofits dedicated to economic growth and revitalization. One of our notable projects in Oak Park is the 40 Acres Art and Culture Center, which was unveiled in 2003. This initiative involved the renovation of the old Guild Theater and Woodruff Hotel Buildings, transforming a previously vacant site into a vibrant community hub.

While St. HOPE Public Schools has made significant strides over the past 18 years, there remains much work to be done. We aspire to continue our vision of becoming one of the premier urban TK-12 public school systems in the nation and seek exceptional individuals committed to this mission and willing to contribute to providing our scholars with the highest quality education.
