Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
Job Summary:Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion Univ is seeking a skilled Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our team in the Department of Medicine. The ideal candidate will have experience working with patients with sickle cell disease and a strong background in primary care.
Responsibilities:- Assess, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for patients with sickle cell disease and primary care patients.
- Promote health promotion examinations and interventions in our patient population.
- Obtain medical histories, perform physical examinations, and prescribe medications under a collaborative practice agreement.
- Differentiate between normal and abnormal findings and order appropriate diagnostic studies.
- Provide anticipatory guidance and counseling to patients and families.
- Document patient assessment and plan of care in the medical record and generate outgoing correspondence.
- Initiate and coordinate referrals to other healthcare team members or agencies.
- Serve as a consultative resource to nursing staff.
- Participate in the development, utilization, and evaluation of resources to meet patient and family educational needs.
- Provide education to external agencies, community, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in development and implementation of divisional and departmental quality assessment, improvement, and research programs and processes.
- Monitor task module of the electronic health record to ensure timely response.
- Responsible for administrative activities and special projects as assigned.
- Contribute toward the achievement of divisional and departmental goals.
- Participate and contribute to activities that enhance clinical expertise and nursing knowledge.
- Participate in professional nursing activities in the division, community, and professional organizations.
- Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, residents, and the public.
- Nurse Practitioner: MSN, licensed RN by the Virginia Board of Nursing, and certified Nurse Practitioner.
- Physician Assistant: MPA, licensed Physician Assistant within the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Schedule II prescriptive eligibility.
- Knowledge of or experience working with persons with sickle cell disease, chronic pain management, and cardiovascular disease.
- Intermediate knowledge of and experience with personal computers.
- Intermediate word processing skills required.
