Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Swiss CNC Lathe Machinist to join our manufacturing team at Northern Gear. This role involves setting up, adjusting, and operating Swiss CNC Lathe machines to produce precision metal components within a job shop environment that requires daily set-ups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret machining instructions, blueprints, work orders, and specification sheets to determine machine settings and fixtures.
  • Efficiently power up and down the machines, load and unload components, and ensure the correct tooling is utilized.
  • Set up and operate machines to confirm the accuracy of CNC settings or programs, including calculating and adjusting controls for machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and cutting depth and angle.
  • Utilize measuring tools such as micrometers and gauges to verify that parts conform to specifications.
  • Adhere to all operational instructions, maintaining compliance with ISO/QS Standards and Northern Gear’s quality certification requirements.
  • Perform necessary preventative maintenance, troubleshoot machine malfunctions, and test machine operations for performance and functionality.
  • Collaborate with engineers, programmers, production staff, and management to address machining challenges, focusing on continuous improvement in tool life, cost reduction, machine downtime, setup time, and quality enhancements.
  • Provide assistance and training to operators as required.
  • Complete other job-related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Physical capability and stamina to fulfill the essential functions of the role, including the ability to walk, stand, lift, and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for completing forms, inputting data into various programs, and exchanging information with team members.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints.
  • Experience in a fast-paced production environment.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in setting up and operating Swiss CNC machines is required.
