Overview of the Cybersecurity Specialist Role:

The Operational Technology cybersecurity division is responsible for delivering technical and application support for internal cybersecurity solutions, including systems designed to detect and monitor potential cyber threats. Cybersecurity Specialists play a crucial role in Central Hudson's Critical Infrastructure Protection Program, focusing on evaluating current systems and identifying potential vulnerabilities, as well as configuring tools to manage these vulnerabilities. Collaboration with internal teams and external vendors is essential to ensure resource availability and information protection. Responsibilities may evolve as departmental needs change.

Key Responsibilities:

Tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Configuration, testing, analysis, and support for all cybersecurity tools utilized to safeguard data and information, along with assessments and evaluations of existing security measures
  • Execution of tasks and procedures to uphold NERC/CIP compliance
  • Assistance with identity and access management and vulnerability management systems
  • Conducting vulnerability scans, developing remediation action plans, and ensuring their implementation
  • Performing active vulnerability assessments, security evaluations, and system patching
  • Designing and executing cybersecurity awareness initiatives and risk assessments
  • Conducting annual penetration testing and incident response tabletop exercises
  • In the event of a cybersecurity incident, providing support for response efforts, including investigation, documentation, and remediation
  • Carrying out additional duties as assigned to support the organization's cybersecurity objectives
  • Assisting with storm/emergency restoration activities

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related STEM field. Alternatively, an associate's degree in the aforementioned fields with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or a high school diploma with at least 5 years of relevant experience will be considered
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to produce clear and concise technical documentation and policies
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the capacity to collaborate with internal stakeholders in a team-oriented environment
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Proficient knowledge of Windows and Linux Operating Systems
  • Familiarity with Firewalls, Switches, and Antivirus solutions
  • Understanding of system hardening and cybersecurity best practices
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain attention to detail, and adapt to various support environments and assignments as priorities shift
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with tools such as Industrial Defender, Symantec End Point Protection, KIWI Syslog, etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework and 20 Critical Security Controls, as well as NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (NERC CIP)
  • Background in the energy and utilities sector or a regulated/co-sourced environment
  • Strong understanding of computer systems, information security software and hardware components, network systems, databases, and information security safeguards
  • Programming and scripting experience
