Job Summary:

Houston Methodist is seeking a skilled Mental Health Technician to join our team in providing exceptional care to our patients. As a Mental Health Technician, you will play a vital role in advancing the skills and abilities of our team to care for patients with complex needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the interprofessional care team to provide comprehensive patient care, utilizing therapeutic communication techniques to promote positive outcomes.
  • Record data and perform treatments and procedures in accordance with established policies and procedures, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
  • Assist with maintaining and cleaning of equipment and stocking supplies, as well as positioning and transporting patients, to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Participate in department projects and shared governance activities, seeking guidance and validation of knowledge base, skill level, and decision-making as necessary.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent education.
  • One year of previous experience as a Mental Health Technician in a psychiatric/substance abuse setting, or three years' experience as a nursing/patient care assistant with specialized training and experience in crisis management prevention in a hospital setting.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA) and NVCRISIS - Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to access information both in the department and within the hospital system to support the department and interprofessional health care team.
  • Basic computer knowledge, including operation of multiple computer systems, such as electronic health records and Microsoft Office.
