About this Role: The Retail Associate is responsible for receiving, categorizing, pricing, and preparing donated goods for display in the retail environment. This role involves assessing the appropriateness and pricing of items based on established criteria, maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the store and sorting area, assisting customers with donations, selections, and purchases, operating a cash register, and addressing customer inquiries.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Receives, evaluates, and categorizes donated items such as apparel, footwear, household goods, and miscellaneous items according to their condition and category; selects items suitable for display and directs them to the appropriate area for further processing; disposes of unsuitable items in line with established protocols.
  • Labels items with specially coded tags and/or prices following established guidelines; organizes clothing on hangers and displays them on racks.
  • Facilitates customer transactions by processing sales through a cash register; handles cash, counts change, and issues receipts; packages purchased items; balances the cash drawer and generates routine register reports; ensures the security and accountability of all cash register funds and sales documentation in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Maintains the tidiness and security of the cash register area; ensures adequate supplies of forms, bags, etc.; keeps the warehouse area organized and clean; performs cleaning duties for floors, tables, and workspaces.
What We Seek:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
  • One year of experience in retail or warehouse settings preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance expectations. Proficiency in reading, writing, and effectively communicating in English. Capability to operate a cash register, perform basic mathematical calculations, and count change. Ability to engage in continuous walking, bending, standing, and occasional climbing. Duties are primarily performed while standing, with brief periods of sitting as needed. Moderate physical effort is required, including walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs.

Working Environment:

Work may be conducted in a standard retail setting with minimal physical discomforts associated with weather changes or typical store conditions. Occasionally, work may take place in a warehouse environment where physical discomforts related to weather changes or exposure to noise, dust, and dirt may occur.
